Daily News

Newspapers

Everyday I scan the major newspapers.

They are all full of bads news...  one really needs to be thankful that things are like they are and not as bad as for some people....

House Move

Delayed again............. this time not really sure why? so have delayed moving yet again. (I am still a prisoner somewhat due to lack of space).
Move (or more accurately, getting the key) has been postponed .... again  .....  this time until Wednesday next week.

There have been so many stuff ups and delays that is has past being funny and 'typcial luck for me ha!' and I am slowly getting really annoyed,,,  and just fed up.

Won't be long now hopefully.

Mood: Accomplished

A major step forward with the main web site.

I have added cross browser Dynamic Stylesheets.
i.e.

A menu option with a growing number of stylesheet and layout choices.

This started off as an I.E. Only feature....

After researching this further and creating my own combination of "snippets" this now works across browser (tested on I.E. and Firefox) and also fully conforms to W3C xhtml 1.1.

Daily Update:

Mood: heh

OK today I figured that moving house can't be too far away, so I need to get my web site in order, as well as pack....

I have added an Off-site WEB Based News Desk which is really handy.  I am able to update the News Desk from any connected PC.

Todays Site Update

Mood: Challenged and Accomplished

Friday Feb 18 - Written at 1:44pm

Changed header banner pic and implemented crude protection as a test....  rudimentary but works for some....

I am thinking of adding a Daily Rollback blogroll?  This keep a history of Front Pages...  maybe I will consider using Dynamic Stylesheets to roll back the content....  I am in two minds...

Also added a picture of Thomas with a Link to one of the Flickr Albums.

:)

Re-coded html and css to reach conformity.....

Now ALL html and CSS complies

**

I have now also started to re-configure the code in order to facilitate a rotating top banner....

maybe I will end up with a rotating banner that automatically changes each day and draws from an easy to manage list of appropriate pics.....

6:42pm - Another update.......  yes I know I have no life.....

I seem to be having trouble getting the Dynamic Switching of Stylesheets working.........  must rest the eyes and check the code....

for now I have a work around and am all set with a daily pic....  maybe even linked to some news >> ????  trouble is most of the papers are full of bad news.............  it's what sells papers.

Replacing multiples into one single blog. To blog or not to(o) blog!

Mood: curious

I am quite impressed with this latest tool from blogigo.com ("I go Blog") - lol   *off to the blog I go.....*

It has made me want to consolidate my blogs into one....  this one?  not sure if I am happy with NOT hosting the data.....  we'll see....

It sure is a nice result:

  • A range of nice clean templates
  • various font styles, colours etc...
  • Easy to 'manage'...

WEB Plans

Internet

Once I move house and I am not living in a shoebox with a desk, I hope to be able to arrange some furniture into some semblance of order and comfort.

I will have room for a decent work area where I won't have to back out of the bedroom/office seperate to a bedroom and a living area and lounge area where I might even get to swing the cat around - and she (the cat) knows it..

A case of the best laid plans.....

I am intending to apply for a Go For Gold Scholarship as I could really do with a new PC in order to continue working as much as I do.  The current PC is "hanging on" - however it is only a matter of time.

I aim to finalise the move into Corporate with the Ambassadors as I feel this is a very worthy cause and as yet untapped.  People in the corporate field are just too busy and have not been made aware enough of what needs to happen. So far so good.

In order to put some spin on the ball, as it were....  I feel we need to differentiate ourselves from the many other presenters on a range of topics that cover a range of interests...

I.T. Corporate Sales Arena.

This is a dog eat dog field. Simple, it is tough.
I remember days when every Monday morning sales meetings saw new faces appear and some regulars disappear......

You need to produce results, this can be hard, and depends on the status of your particular market and trends.....  I.T. is somewhat fashion or trend driven.  This can also cause instability in the sales teams.

so...  it is hard out there.....  we need to gain their attention, in the first minute..... or they are lost...

We need to get their attention and every little bit helps.

This will involve the completion of a Slide Show template based on Eric Meyer's S5 initiative.

This has been significantly edited, although the Meyer "smarts" are all still there.  Additions include:  toggle.js, which is now crossbrowser and switchstyle.js which further enhance its feature set.

I feel I still need to make further changes to the method of utilising  the default font-size attribute.  Some use the em variable, others use a percentage %.
It varies greatly what happens when a user re-sizes the text with the View option, when only making a slight change to the variable, wether it be em or a percentage.

Makes it quite tricky...  to get to a level of "Cross Browser" conformance that I am happy with and still conform to what I have called the VIA (Visually Impaired Aware) standard is quite hard.

Add to this colour issues (like I have) and pleasing everybody, whilst maybe a dream, is still a designers utopian goal........

toggle:  Allows page elements to be toggled on or off.....
simple really and quite handy. Allows for the display:block / inline / none.... css attribute to be manipulated at the element level.

TEST (underway...):  Like this >>

*the above test will only operate if I can integrate external javascript into this post........*

switchstyle: Manipulates external stylesheets and allows complete swapping of stylesheets with an entire page re-load.

The addition of what I call the 'Style Manager' allows the entire design of what ends up as a SlideShow to look more like a traditional 'Powerpoint' style slideshow.  The colours, layout, graphics can all be instantly changed and as all the styles can be pre-loaded (as one single HTML file), swapping is almost instantaneous.

This combination together with the addition of time taken focusing on the layout has resulted in the latest home page.

Presentation Station

This is the start of a collection of on-line MS Ambassador Presentations. These are all available from any Internet connected PC. They will work with all the major browsers.

Each Presentation is a HTML file (that would normally be what makes up a WEB page) and contains all that is required to emulate the more traditional Presentation Software, It reacts much faster as all of the presentation is loaded into memory before each show is commenced.

This results in a Multimedia capable presentation with your choice of up to date:

• graphics,
• news,
• video or
• audio that is fast to load and intuitive to present.

Moving through the presentation can be achieved using the Keyboard (arrow keys ← and →). the [Spacebar], the mouse or specially designed "hidden" navigation keys.

First Trial of Powerpoint Conversions

I have completed two of the presentations so far. I took a break for vision repair, although it only partially worked.... :(

The conversion from Power Point slides into the new Template is not all that difficult, just time consuming (especially as the vision sux),

Although the site "WAS" down for scheduled maintenance earlier today... I can hardly complain considering it has been very good and is full of useful tools..........

The latest start page is: HERE

The presentation template is the culmination of some research and it hails from multiple sources:

The Original S5 Slideshow came via Eric A. Meyer of www.meyerweb.com and Jeffrey Zeldman amongst others. thanks to all !

I then added some additional code and undertook some editing:

Additions:

1 - toggle Javascript: Now cross browser, this allows the display of any element to be toggled as on or off. Very handy for custom pop-ups etc.

2 - Dynamic Stylesheet Swapping. Also now cross browser.
This allows for the presenter to immediately and easily change the stylesheet. This includes the ability to change any element on the page, immediately and painlessly. Stylesheets may change: color. type-style. graphics. layout, text-size..... anything you wish.

The distribution of the final release product will be Floppy Disk, CD and the Internet. These will be in Windows Format. Apple Macintosh, Lynx and others are all supported via the Internet using any Industry Standards based browser.

The Internet Releases will be secured using .htaccess user name and password combinations to selected "rotating" directories.

Results in:

• Any PC, connected to the NET or NOT, Anywhere, Anytime.
• Faster than traditional presentation methods and software.
• Modular design. (un breakable images. last minute changes)
• Leading Edge. Attention Grabbing use of Technology.

Yet Another Blog ??

I have fairly recently dicovered blogs and blogging and as a typical geek, I have gone nuts....

I must say I haven't yet got into the mindset to keep an on-line diary per say, but I must say I am having the most fun just tinkering...

WEB Site update.

OK well I have managed to stick with the look so far...  *lol*

I have been tinkering with the list of links at the RHS of the page and have now moved them (or hidden them for fear of losing them).

I have opted to use Blogrolling as a way of managing some links that I would like to see change from time to time.

Whilst the Premium service at blogrolling.com would be terrific, sadly, as cheap as it is, I am unable to fit it into the already bursting budget.

This is also a further test of using the CSS float variable....
Not sure if it works....  the completed post will tell the story.

For some strange reason, I need to use the TEXT MODE when posting BEFORE inserting the graphic image otherwise all of the existing post disappears when I try to EDIT it.....
