Camazotz

Camazotz seemed exactly the same as Earth. There were trees such as birches, pines and maples. It seemed like Autumn there. The three W's then left, but before that, Mrs. Which told us to go into the town and not get seperated. Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who also gave some advise, and Mrs. Who gave me her glasses and told me to use them as a last resort.

The town was laid in angular patterns. The houses were all the same, everything looked the same. There were children playing outside the houses. Some were skipping rope and others were bouncing balls. It seemed like ordinary children at home, but I though that something was different about their play, yet I could not put my finger on it. Suddenly, Charles Wallace said that the children were playing in rhythm. It was true. When the skipping rope hit the pavement, the ball did. It was all in rhythm. All identical, like the houses and the number of flowers. Then, the doors of the houses opened at the same time, and out came woman who seemed the same although the print of their dresses was different. The women clapped and the children walked into the houses.

I wondered how they did it. It was impossible to do so even if we tried. Calvin suggested going back to Mrs. Whatsit, Who and Which. I impatiently said that we couldn't go back as Mrs. Whatsit told us to go into the town. I started down on the street, with Calvin and Charles Wallace following behind. Then, we saw something and stopped. In front of one of the houses stood a little boy. He was bouncing his ball with no particular rhythm, sometimes droping it and running after it. The door of the house opened and the boy's mother, who seemed anxious, grabbed the boy and went into the house. Charles Wallace picked up the ball, which dropped from the boy's fingers. The ball looked ordinary. Charles knocked on the door of the house and the boy's mother opened the door. Along the street all the other doors opened a little and eyes were peering at us. Charles Wallace said to the mother that the boy dropped his ball, but the woman denied it. He let the boy see the ball and the boy immediately grabbed it and darted back. The mother slammed the door close. The other doors also closed.

As we moved deeper into Camazotz, a paper boy saw us and stopped. He demanded our reason for being there. Charles Wallace explained to him that we were strangers and he asked if we had our papers processed. The boy also said that Camazotz had the best "Central Intelligence Center" and other good things about Camazotz. Charles Wallace asked where the "CENTRAL Central Intelligence Center" was.

The Journey

It was another ordinary day. School was horrible, as usual. During Social Studies, the teacher was sarcastic just because I couldn't answer some questions. I left the classroom and the principal, Mr. Jenkins sent for me during study hall. He repriminded me but I didn't really care. Well, not until he mentioned my father and asked if there was any news from him. Wasn't he concerned! I bet that he was just curious. I was furious.

After school, Charles Wallace suggested that we went to see Mrs. Whatsit. I was reluctant at first, but agreed after deciding to take Fortinbras (Our dog) along. On the way, we meet this boy, Calvin O'Keefe. In the old supposedly haunted house, we met a woman called Mrs. Who, which was one of Mrs. Whatsit's friends.

We later brought Calvin back home for dinner. He told me that he thought I was lucky and described his living conditions to me. I then realised that because I thought I was plain and had a horrible life, I did not pay attention to my family's love and care for me. After some chatting, he told me that he didn't feel alone anymore. I was quite puzzled as he was good in sports and was very popular, and he replied that people liked him for unimportant reasons. I then knew that I shouldn't judge a book my its cover and I had misjudged him from the start. I was a little surprised when the twins were excited at having Calvin for supper. I then had a walk with him and we talked to each other for a while, but in the midst of it, Charles Wallace, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who appeared. A vibrating, strange voice then cut in. Charles Wallace said that it was Mrs. Which, another one of Mrs. Whatsit's friends. Suddenly, there was darkness. There was no sound, I was alone. I tried to say something but no voice came out. I tried to move, but I couldn't feel my body, arms or limbs. Then, everything went back to normal. The only thing was, me, Charles Wallace and Calvin were in a sunlit field. Mrs. Whatsit, Who and Which then appeared.

Mrs. Whatsit then transformed into a white horse-like creature with a torso like a man's. She then carried us up to a small plateau and told us to look up. At first I did not see anything, but then I saw a shadow. It was dark and dreadful. I asked if the dark thing was what my father was fighting and Mrs. Which confirmed it. We were then taken to a planet called Orion. Mrs. Whatsit said that they had a friend there. The air in Orion was grey, there was no trace of vegetation. We entered a cavern and there was a woman inside, staring into a crystal ball. The Happy Medium showed us our own planet. There was some sort of smoky haze covering Earth, and the haze was actually the Black Thing. Mrs. Whatsit told us more about the Black Thing and I found out that it had been there for a long time. The Medium also let us see Calvin's and my mother. We tessered again and arrived at a planet called Camazotz. I didn't like the sound of that name at all.

A very tiring day

The title just can't describe today better. I just can't stand school! This morning, one of the teachers said that I was a poor student. To make myself feel better, I rough-housed a little, only to be insulted by one of the girls, who said that I "always act like a baby".

On the way home from school, some boy said something about my "dumb baby brother". I was just so mad that I simply threw my books on the side of the road and tackled him. In the end, I arrived home with a torn blouse and a huge bruise under one eye. And that was not the end of my horrible day.

I thought that a good sleep would solve my problems. But it did not. There just happened to be a storm that night. Or rather, a hurricane. And I had the luck to be able to sleep in the attic bedroom. I knew that I asked for it...But it isn't a privilege during a hurricane. I decided to go to the kitchen to make myself to cocoa. There, my brother Charles Wallace was sitting at the table drinking milk. Then, my mother suddenly appeared standing in the doorway. We had sandwiches. but were rudely disturbed by what I thought was a tramp, who Charles later identified as "Mrs. Whatsit". My mother, however, treated her as a house guest and even offered her a sandwich. A sandwich! This old woman barges into our house in the middle of the night and my mother acted as if she was a normal person.

Before Mrs. Whatsit left, she mentioned a tess-tess something which seemed to make mother upset. What was it?
