WOW Free Character Migration for EU Realms

Official news: Blizzard announced late last week that there's relief on the way for wow EU characters tied up by queues -- they've got a whole mess of WOW Free character migration in the mix. We've got the whole list of transfers after the break as well.

Argent Dawn appears to be in the worst shape, as Blizzard is sending players from that realm onto three different realms. Magtheridon seems to be the least busy -- all they're transferring off there is the Horde-side players. They're also transferring players off of a few different realms to the newly-created one, Chamber of Aspects, so if you're looking for a new start, there you go.

These Free character WOW migrations are going until December 2nd, so now's your chance, EU players, if you're on the selected realms and have been waiting to jump ship.

The demise of Wotlk Heroic Leap

There was a time in the beta of Wrath of the Lich King that Warriors everywhere were excited little special snowflakes. They had not one but two, count 'em two, special talents: wotlk Heroic Leap and wotlk Titan's Grip.

While the dual wielding goodness/badness that is Titan's Grip continues today, Wotlk Heroic Leap was removed mid-beta with Warriors everywhere screaming and crying. Yours truly shed a tear. I loved leveling through the Howling Fjord and Dragonblight with Heroic Leap at my side. One press of a button and bam - I'd be raining down upon my enemies with my plate shining and dual two-handers blaring.

Its demise has always been speculated upon. Many thought that the skill just provided one too many ways for a warrior to quickly move about the world. Others thought that it was due to it being too over powered in PvP. Still others thought it had to do with exploitation of the terrain.

It turns out that those folks who thought that exploiting the terrain was the reason for its demise were correct. Ghostcrawler weighed in on Wotlk Heroic Leap's removal and gave this very reason.

When you think about heroic leap from a game stand point, it is an ability which avoids the majority of terrain, and thus limits on the player's movements, to get to a given mob. Is there a stump between you and that nasty spider you want to kill? Heroic Leap and wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am, you're over the stump and standing on top of the spider beating the living daylights out of it.

It's this nature of placing the player at the mob while avoiding the majority of terrain paths that caused Wotlk Heroic Leap's demise. Players could (and did) exploit this. Thus the ability had to go.

Ghostcrawler answered a criticism that the Death Knight's Death Grip did the same thing. He points out that with Death Grip you can assume the player is in legal terrain and pulling the mob to them. You can't reverse Death Grip and go to the mob. Thus if the mob is somehow in illegal terrain, it's not an issue. With Heroic Leap wotlk it would be.

Ghostcrawler does make an interesting revelation. He mentions that they had thought about making wotlk Heroic Leap a Blink or Disengage like ability. In the end they decided against it. But I have to believe and have hope that one day wotlk Heroic Leap might find itself back in the game with mechanics like Blink.

I can hope, right?

How to Get Wrath Heirloom Items

Wrath of the Lich King introduced not only new content, but an entirely new type of item. These items are called wrath Heirloom items, or Bind to Account (BoA) items. They aren't tied to any one character and can be freely passed from alt to alt, but they're all tied to one account, the account that bought the item. No handing them over to your friends, no mailing them to other players, no mailing them to your second account. So far none of these items are drops, but rewards for more veteran players of the Wrath content. There are two different ways of earning these items, but they dovetail nicely.

Quite simply, you need to participate in Wrath's content. Items suited to PvE are acquired via Emblems of Heroism, and items suited for PvP are acquired via Stone Keeper's Shards.

Emblems of Heroism
Emblems of Heroism are one of the Badge of Justice equivalents in Wrath of the Lich King. They're acquired through beating Heroic bosses and 10-man raids. 25-man raids award Emblems of Valor, which are not used for any Heirloom items wrath currently.

Unless you're a chronic altaholic, you may want to hold off on buying these Heirloom items, because there's also a wide variety of epic gear you can buy with it that's Bind on Pickup, not only the Heirloom items. Again, these are the Badge of Justice equivalents. Think of the Heirloom items like the epic gems or Nether Vortices from The Burning Crusade. If you want to gear up your main, these items are going to be things you buy after you have nothing else left to buy. If you spend most of your time leveling up alts, these items may be very good for you to buy right away.
Stone Keeper's Shards
The PvP focused wrath heirloom items technically don't require you to PvP at all, but it speeds up the process. When your faction has just won Lake Wintergrasp, your entire faction gains the Essence of Wintergrasp buff. If you're familiar with Spirit Shards from The Burning Crusade, it's more or less the same thing. Yo

u loot the Stone Keeper's Shards from bosses in dungeons while you have the faction-wide buff. You'll typically get 2-3 shards per boss, in both normal and heroic versions of the dungeon.

If PvP is more your style, or you just want to speed up the rate at which you're earning these shards, there are daily quests in Lake Wintergrasp that you can do while you're fighting to get your faction the Essence of Wintergrasp buff. Wowhead has a full listing of those quests for both factions if you want to hunt them down.

These items look like they cost a lot of shards, but considering how many of them bosses drop at a time and you can get the Shards from quests, it's not all that bad. When you have enough Shards to buy what you want, head over to Lake Wintergrasp, pray the appropriate vendor is up, and make your purchases.

Again, note that there are other things you can buy with Stone Keeper's Shards on various other vendors, so make sure you don't want anything for your 'main' before buying these wrath Heirloom items.

So that's how you get Heirloom items wrath! You may want to pay special attention to the Shoulder armor, because that's probably one of the first Bind to Account pieces you'll want to buy. A passive +10% XP bonus for your alts? Yeah, that's friggin' sweet.

Warhammer Heavy Metal hotfixes

Mythic Entertainment has announced some recent Warhammer Online hot fixes they've made regarding the warhammer Heavy Metal event, which entails the completion of daily tasks for the chance to gain early access to the two new classes being introduced to the game. Despite the excitement some had about being able to play a Knight of the Blazing Sun or a Black Guard early through goal completion in the warhammer Heavy Metal event, there have been some issues and complaints that WAR players have been reporting -- particularly in regards to unfinished tasks and scenario launch rates at Reikland Factory.

Warhammer Online community coordinator James Nichols made an announcement about what Mythic is doing to address these concerns:

By popular request, players will now be able to complete previous daily tasks for the warhammer Heavy Metal event. A task will continue to unlock each day and remain open until the end of the event allowing players to complete all the tasks at their convenience. Please Note: If you notice an apparent loss of credit for any previous days you have already completed simply exit the game entirely and log back in to correct this issue.

Reikland Factory: Improvements have been made to potentially increase the rate at which the scenario launches.
