For more tips, i mostly use flv downloader to capture youtube and convert flv to divx for dvd burn, otherwise ,you need to convert rm to flash,mkv to flash,avi to swf,avi to flv for more sharing:) You may try this video converter, I know it can convert AVI video to Wii compatible video, and here is a guide about how to use it

Well i don't know if the wii can watch avi Un-hacked but i can with my Home-brew channel

its a hacked channel you can get with Zelda Twilight Princess
you can install programs and soft-mod your wii with it

i can play burned ( back-ups they call it) games with it
no guys you dont need to hack the wii to watch avi format movies read the instruction manual for once

i think you can view them in the photo channel
I'm not sure the wii can play avi files, maybe you should convert them into a file they can understand? and obviously you'll need dvdx or mplayer or some other hombrew to watch movies.
