How can I split audio and video from an avi file?
I know I don't have the fastest computer in the world. But I have 1.5MB DSL internet connection. Why does it take so long?
If it's an ordinary uncompressed AVI file (e.g. from a screen-recording program like FRAPS, Xfire) then the file will be enormously huge, as in at least several hundred megabytes. Check the filesize in Windows Explorer, and if it is then compress the video using a program like ffmpeg before you upload.
If you convert from one lossy compressed format to another (as you are here), there will be some loss in quality, especially if you keep the new file size the same or smaller than the original.MTS Converter is especially designed for all High-Definition video lovers to convert MTS files to all kinds of video and audio files.
I haven't needed to make a video mp4 so I can't recommend anything specific but here are a few free ones that can create mp4 (there are more). Check the reviews.
I recommend 4Videosoft Video Converter Platinum which can convert between any video formats including MPG, MPEG, MPEG2, VOB, MP4, M4V, RM, RMVB, WMV, etc and extract audio from these video.
It also converts between all audio formats including MP3, MP2, AAC, AC3, WAV, MID, MIDI, WMA, M4A, RA, RAM, OGG, APE, AU, FLAC .Mac MKV Converter, a professional conversion tool running on mac os x, can convert mkv with excellent output quality and fast speed.
Here is a step by step guide to rip DVD and convert any videos to other video formats and audio formats for iPod touch/classic/video/nano, iPhone, Zune, PSP, video capable MP3 players, etc. Meanwhile, it can also support output almost any audio/video format including Video format (H264, MP4, WMV, AVI, MOV, RM, 3GP, flv, SWF, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, VCD, SVCD, DVD, etc.) and Audio format (AC3, AAC, MP2, MP3, MP4, RA, WMA, etc.). It is easy-to-use and the converting speed is fast!
The simple fact is that avi is compressed by quite a bit, and mp4 really isn't compressed at all, so the file is always going to be larger if you keep the same quality.

With Mac FLV video Converter, converting flash video .flv to AVI, MP4, MOV, MKV, WMV.
You could make the file smaller by changing your conversion settings so that the new video is a lesser resolution than the original, but it wouldn't look quite as good.
