I hear the exact same nonsensical statements...

"You can not advertise a company on Reddit."

"Reddit traffic doesn't convert."

"You can not *sell* on Reddit."

It's completely absurd.

Almost always, it comes down to a deficiency of understanding the way the community works.

Today I'd like to clear up some of the confusion:

First, let us deal with the common misconceptions:

Reddit doesn't be used by my target audience.

Reddit is one of the biggest, most diverse communities that are online. The site is filled with millions of people who have divided themselves into individual subreddits based on interest. Quite literally, there is a subreddit that applies to every and any company demographic that is possible. Unless you sell products to individuals without access to the web... you should consider joining the conversation with your audience.

Reddit traffic is low quality and won't convert.

It's true -- you'll end up with lots of -- or very little -- traffic that does not convert, if you do not realize how to efficiently use the site. Typically, this is because you are posting the incorrect kind of content, or posting to the wrong spots. Later in this post I Will prove the above statement untrue with hard evidence. Reddit Promotion (Or Was That Advertisements?) Best Practices

There are a few essential points to consider when advertising on Reddit:

It's about value.

Just as with any other channel, effective promotion happens when you provide the subscribers with serious value. Think of the folks behind the *click.*

It is also about relevancy.

The subreddit's audience identifies what is or isn't adequate to post. This happens directly through subreddit-special rules, but also indirectly through voting. (Tip: Research the subreddit you're targeting completely, and determine what works and what doesn't.) It's better to merely observe for a few days -- without posting -- to understand the "personality" of each subreddit. You'll notice they are all vastly different creatures.

No gimmicks. No tricks. No underhanded strategies.

Don't forget, Reddit isn't your average social media site. When you delve deeper into the community (into the less-popular, but more niched subreddits) you will must shed the clickbait titles and low quality content. No chance of getting called-out for advertising on Reddit and earning a bad reputation with users.

Demands an upfront investment. (CPM bid at a cost of $1 per thousand impressions now.)

I have noticed less participation through the remarks on sponsored posts.

Has an ad that is substantially more * -y* believe to the traffic. No data to support this, but I consider this causes lower-conversions in comparison to an equivalent number of exposure that is free.

Pro-Hint: The most effective paid campaigns on Reddit are those which - - would have succeeded as normal submissions.

Finding The Proper Community

First off, you have to know which subreddit(s) to target.

If you are interested in trying the Reddit paid ads, I Have discovered that my regular-appearing links and titles received the greatest CTR, CPC, and conversion rate. Your best option would be to assemble a killer bit of content, test it out with a few different names by posting it to a couple of different subreddits and see what garners the most engagement. Subsequently, after you know what works, use the post that performed best as your starting advertisement creative. That way, you'll at least be starting off with sponsored posts on the best foot.
