BUSH: "The people are demanding honest government."
George Bush commented on the recent victory of Hamas in Palestian territory, "The people are demanding honest government."
Well, Mr. Bush, Americans, too, are demanding an honest executive branch. As recent polls have illustrated, most Americans hold firm that Bush is dishonest and a failure as a leader.
Bush's failures outnumber his achievements. Bush failed America with his lackluster, slow-paced response to Katrina, resulting in the death of over 1000 Americans (the majority dying after the storms impact). Bush inflated and distorted pre-war intelligence on weapons of mass destruction to illegally invade a sovereign country, Iraq. A violation of international law and what the United States condemned Nazi Germany for at Nuremberg. Bush then stated at a December 12th speech in Philadelphia that he would have attacked Iraq regardless of the weapons of mass destruction. Over 2,000 Americans are dead and nearly 35,000 Iraqi women and children have been murdered since Bush's invasion of Iraq.
Bush, in violation of the UN Ban on Torture and the Geneva Convention, hid prisoners, tortured prisoners, and denied the Red Cross access to prisoners. The secret prisons were established by the CIA over four years ago.
Bush authorized a secret Pentagon program for "detecting, identifying and engaging" internal enemies that included a database with information on peace protesters. Also, Bush authorized the FBI's use of national security letters to obtain secret access to the personal records of tens of thousands of Americans. Plus, Bush empowered other National Security Agency's interception of telephone calls and e-mails from the United States -- without notice to the federal court that has held jurisdiction over domestic spying since 1978. Bush's comment on this is that he circumvented the law, which is in itself a violation of the law.
Bush's comment on the surprised Hamas victory included this, "...that it's a wake-up call to the leadership." Americans have awakened here, too, and are voicing loudly their disapproval of Bush's policies and lies. Americans need to continue to hold Bush accountable for his numerous failures and lies.
This year, Americans need to change the political status quo.
