CHENEY LIES AGAIN
Recently, vice-president Cheney gave the West Point commencement address. At this American institution, whose motto is , "Duty, Honor, Country," cadets are taught to adhere to the Cadet Honor Code: "A cadet will not lie, cheat, steal, or tolerate those who do."
Why then was Cheney allowed to speak? Cheney, a compulsive lair, continues to perpetuate the lie that al Qaeda was based in Iraq prior to 9/11. He told the cadets, "We are there (in Iraq) because, after 9/11, we decided to deny terrorists any safe haven." Numerous reports by the CIA, Congress, and the Department of Defense have all concluded that al Qaeda never existed in Iraq at the time of Saddam Hussein nor was Iraq involved in the 9/11 attack. However, as a result of Bush and Cheney’s immoral Iraqi invasion, al Qaeda has entered Iraq, terrorist recruitment has increased significantly per the National Intelligence Estimate, and terrorist attacks worldwide have amplified.
Also, Cheney, emphasizing the war on terror, sought to arouse patriotism and self-sacrifice in the graduating cadets. However, Cheney, a five time draft dodger during the Vietnam War, ignored his patriotic duty back then stating, "I had other priorities in the '60s than military service" (4/5/89).
It’s sad that such a noble institution had its graduating class addressed by a deprived, immoral person, Cheney, and that its cadets may have to fight a war based on lies and exaggerations by their commander-in-chief, Bush.
