Bush, NOT ME!!
G.W. Bush said last week that if pollsters had solicited his opinion about Iraq last fall, "I'd have said I disapprove of what was going on in Iraq. They could have put me down as part of the disapproval process." If Bush truly disapproved of the handling of the Iraq war, he need only look in the mirror and point his finger. Why did Bush wait until after the Democrats secured Congress to replace then Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld? Also, why did Bush wait so long to admit that America was in trouble in Iraq? Finally, why hasn’t Bush pressured the Iraqi government to meet certain benchmarks: state security, sharing oil profits, eliminating secular violence?
An overwhelming majority of Americans in poll after poll, have stated their disapproval with Bush and his failed policies. Bush, as commander in chief, is ultimately responsible for the disaster in Iraq. He should have developed and implemented a successful strategy in Iraq. Bush failed by accepting a flawed war plan in Iraq and then interfering catastrophically in the tactics engaged in implementing it. Bush chose to attack Iraq without intellectually considering the consequences.
Bush, Cheney, and the republicans need to face reality and the deteriorating Iraqi conditions, and respect the majority of Americans who want an end to the war. Democrats in congress must continue to apply pressure and accountability to ensure a change in direction in Iraq.
