BUSH, FOREIGN AFFAIRS, AND SLEEPY AMERICANS
Americans should not have been surprised by the disastrous foreign policy of Bush. Bush had and still has a very limited understanding of geopolitics. During the 2000 presidential race, a Glamour Magazine journalist questioned Bush about the Taliban in Afghanistan. The unintelligent Bush shook his head in silence. Then when the writer hinted who the Taliban were, the ignorant Bush blurted, “Oh. I thought you said some band. The Taliban in Afghanistan! “
Learning little after assuming the presidency, Bush, before his inept invasion of Iraq, lacked a basic understanding of the country he planned to invade. In 2003, weeks before his war, Bush, when briefed by Iraqi expatriates that there were Sunnis and Shiites in their country, stated that he thought "the Iraqis were Muslims."
(Limited intelligence is a trademark of the Bush administration. White House Press Secretary Perino confessed that she knew nothing of the Cuban Missile Crisis. She couldn’t reply to a reporter's query that referred to Russian President Putin's comparison of the Cuban crisis to current Russia-US relations.)
Bush squandered the immense compassion and goodwill the world had for Americans after 9/11. Bush single handedly transformed a very positive, world image of America into the most negative, world image America has ever held.
Bush’s war has created the largest deficit in American‘s history; devalued the U.S. dollar, making it second to the Euro Mark, and caused the price of oil to soar from $35 per barred weeks before his war to an all time high of over $100 per barrel.
Americans should be extremely weary of electing another president with such a naïve understanding of the world because it will take years to undo the mistakes, failures, and disasters of Bush and his administration.
