BUSH AND CHENEY AVOID REALITIES OF WAR
Bush, Cheney, and the neocons proclaimed prior to the Iraq war that it would not be another Vietnam. Bush and company took satisfaction in themselves on learning "the lessons of Vietnam." Now three years later, with victory no where in sight, nearly 3000 Americans dead, over 20,000 Americans wounded, 150,000 Iraqi women and children murdered, American war crimes on the rise, $345 billion wasted, civil war erupting, Bush has led America into another quagmire.
Bush, who avoided the Vietnam draft by gaining preferential treatment in the guard, and Cheney, who received an amazing five draft deferments during the Vietnam War, have showed little concern for the enormous loss of life in Iraq. Instead all have proclaimed that they will “stay the course” in Iraq.
The Bush administration has failed to come to grips with the stark realities of the Iraqi war and has instead utilized weapons of mass deception to deceive the public into believing we are making progress in Iraq.
In 2004, Cheney proclaimed "the last throes" of the insurgency, and Rice stated in 2005 that the Iraqi insurgency was the "last gasp" of a dying movement As recently as this year, Rumsfeld and his generals stated that troops would be reduced in Iraq because we are winning. All these statements proved to be deceptive rhetoric.
A National Intelligence Estimate concluded the Iraq war has aided a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has increased since September 11. Also, as a result of illegal Iraqi oil sells and ransoms paid by foreign governments, terrorist have made millions of dollars to fill their coffers and fund another generation of terrorists.
It’s apparent that Bush and company learned nothing form the Vietnam War and have reopened similar woes in Iraq that will lead to another American defeat.
