BUSH HAS SETTLED FOR LESS WITH DIRE CONSEQUENCES

Bush and his chickenhawk underlings (Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld) have failed to adopt an effective and winning strategy in Iraq and now have lowered their expectations there. With mounting American and Iraqi civilian casualties and a resounding American chorus of anti- war slogans, Bush and his lackluster team have opted to settle for less in Iraq, which will have dire results for America.

First, the Iraqi constitution proclaims Islam as the official religion of the state, and it is a main source for legislation. No law can be passed that impugns the principles of Islam's rulings. Bush is creating another secular state in the region, similar to Iran. Shiite Islamic clerics will play a pivotal role in Iraq. The constitution grants judges authority to void legislation that may challenge the Islamic faith. To audit such legislation, the constitution establishes the appointment of advisors in Shariah, or Islamic law, to officiate on the Supreme Federal Court. The courts would rely on Shariah, which grants women fewer rights than men.

Second, Iraq was not on Bush and his State Department's list of 45 countries where al Qaeda had operations. Now after America's invasion, Iraq's there. Al Qaida only entered Iraq after the Americans attacked her illegally on false assumptions (i.e. weapons of mass destruction).

Third, since the war began in Iraq, nearly 20,000 innocent Iraqi women and children and close to 2,000 Americans have been killed.

Fourth, America's humble image, prestige, and 9/11 sympathy has been soiled by Bush, resulting in a negative perception of America by nearly three fourths of the worlds population.

Bush, a man of dubious character (arrested three times, a 20 year drug abuser), has tarnished America's image for years to come and is making America less safer in the world. America deserves so much better.

God help America!
