THE MISSING

The United States of America was founded on the belief that "all men are created equal." However, this is not the case. If you are rich, famous, pretty, or have political ties, you will receive favorable treatment in America.

It is indeed sad that Holloway, an 18-year-old Alabaman, has been missing in Aruba even though she was naïve to stay out till 1:30 am with strangers. Her name appears on news media outlets everyday. All cite that she comes from an "affluent suburb of Birmingham."

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, out of every million children in the US, 10,000 will become missing this year. In most cases, very little media exposure is provided for the missing.

For example, in 2002, a young Californian woman, eight months pregnant, was reported missing. Three months later, her remains washed up on a shore not far from her home.

The woman, whose killing was never figured out, was not Laci Peterson.

She was Evelyn Hernandez, a Salvadoran immigrant whose 5-year-old son Alex vanished at the same time and was never located.

Little mention of the Evelyn Hernandez murder has ever appeared on television — even though it echoed the Laci Peterson case, which so dominated the cable stations.

Another example is of two children, Shasta and Dylan Groene, missing from an Idaho home since early May, which was the scene of a horrific triple-murder. These helpless children did not wander off recklessly with strangers, but happened to be present during a gruesome murder.

Why was so little mentioned of these two helpless, innocent victims? Is it because they do not reside in an affluent neighborhood? If the media had dominated the airwaves with this story, Dylan in all likelihood would still be alive. Sham on the media!

I wish all missing victims were given the fullest support by law enforcement, the community-at-large, and the press, but I am certain this will never happen. Sadly, America is a place where money, looks, and power talk.

My heart goes out to all vitims of crime, especially the poor and helpless. I agree with Jesus who stated,: ‘Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.’

BUSH NEEDS TO WALK THE TALK

George Bush campaigned on restoring honor and integrity to the White House. Last year Bush was campaigning on character and security. Now there is irrefutable evidence that Bush’s chief advisor and campaign manager, Karl Rove, violated the law and lied to the American public. This White House's credibility is damaged.

Rove is responsible for divulging a CIA agent’s name to reporters to discredit a report filed by her husband, Wilson, illustrating the lack of Iraqi nuclear weapons prior to the Iraq war. Like the dirty and dark tricks of the former-Nixon presidency, Bush and his administration seek out and discredit any that challenge his false beliefs.

It's a crime to identify someone intentionally as a covert agent if the government is trying to keep secret that agent's identity.

There would be no leniency on the part of any White House in which an aide is leaking classified information, which erodes American security, to slant political opinion of that administration.

Bush stated a year ago that, “And if there's a leak out of my administration, I want to know who it is. And if the person has violated law, that person will be taken care of.”

Rove violated the law and still works for Bush. In a continuing string of Bush lies, ranging from weapons of mass destruction in Iraq to Hussein was responsible for 9/11 to Bush’s non-admission of his three arrests, one can add yet another Bush lie.
