SHAKIRA AND LIL WAYNE TEAM FOR SANTANA

*Rapper Lil Wayne and Shakira will duet on a yet-to-be-named track from the upcoming Santana retrospective "Ultimate Santana," due Oct. 16 via Arista.

Also appearing in one of three new songs on the set is Tina Turner, who performs a new version of Santana’s 2002 Michelle Branch-laced hit, "The Game of Love."

"We got a Grammy with Michelle, and Michelle brought her own spirit and her own innocence and purity," Santana tells Billboard, adding that Turner was the original intended guest on the track, but that label politics got in the way. "However, when you hear these notes that Tina hits, every hair on your body stands up."

Shakira

The third new track, “Into the Night,” was written and sung by Chad Kroeger of therock group Nickelback. Santana says it has that "kind of chant in a coliseum when your team is ahead, like 'We Will Rock You.' I am very grateful that Chad has shared it with me."

Madonna Can Be Chummy With Shakira, Even When They’re Not In The Same Room

We’ve always loved Madonna. From the controversial “black Jesus” video to the fledgling movie career to the middle aged love affair with her obviously gay trainer yoga, Madge has always been chock full of surprises.

Like the time she managed to dance up a storm with Shakira and Demi Moore and ignore Janet Jackson while simultaneously heading home before midnight with Jackson in tow.

From Ben Widdicombe’s Gatecrasher today:

Shortly after Madonna and Janet Jackson left the Lafayette St. hot spot around midnight, two giant black SUVs arrived and disgorged Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, Penelope Cruz and Shakira. (It’s like the State of the Union Address: At least one high-ranking celebrity has to be in a secure location in case the place is bombed.)

The foursome rolled into the club arm in arm. Ashton dragged Penelope onto the top of a corner booth to dance to ’80s hits, while Demi and Shakira whispered to each other on the dance floor.

From Page Six today:

Madge was chummy with fellow singer Shakira at Butter Monday night (our spy said they showed up “hand in hand”) and was spotted dancing on banquettes with Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Penelope Cruz. But Jackson was holed up a few booths down and, “She was not invited to join Madonna’s crew,” said an onlooker, who told us the table drank “seven bottles of champagne and a ton of beer.”

We’re not the only ones who can’t figure out how Madge could dance on the banquettes with Demi, Ashton, and Penelope when the Material Girl… left before they arrived, right?

Or how Madonna and Janet Jackson could have left before Shakira got there while it could also be true that Madge was busy talking to Shakira and snubbing Janet?

America's Got (Some) Talent

OK, so, we are down to the 20 finalists of America’s Got Talent, and all we can say is … what? Boy Shakira? Seriously? I mean, we don’t often agree with David Hasselhoff (although who hasn’t tried their darnedest to eat a hamburger while lying on the floor partially clad drunk as a skunk?), we must say that the Hoff is correctamundo in his disdain for the inclusion of the “Shakira tribute transvestite.”

I mean, I love a great transvestite as much as the next person, but this kid has no talent. Just a whole lotta creepy.

The other “what?” choice we have to mention is  Mohammad Kashif, the “dancer.” What? Clearly, whatever this guy does on stage does not translate through the small screen, because when we watch, all we see is a slightly uncoordinated young man waving his arms languidly onstage.

My 9-year-old is rooting for the 14-year-old singer Julienne Irwin. My son likes Side Swipe, the martial arts act. We all love Butterscotch, the beatboxer who also happens to sing and play piano like Alicia Keyes.

There seems to be a lot of finalists this year who are already quite professional, with acts in Vegas, Branson, Mo., and on cruise ships. Several of the singers have albums. This professionalism makes me root for folks like Robert Hatcher, the crybaby sewer worker who sings so beautifully, and Cas Haley, the stay-at-home dad who sings Sting better than Sting.

Sony BMG has filed a lawsuit against the company that made the "rootkit" software that caused the label so many headaches last year. The $12 million suit against Arizona-based Amergence Group claims that the company's MediaMax anti-piracy software - which was surreptitiously included on 32 Sony BMG releases and caused some users to suffer computer problems - ended up costing Sony nearly $6 million when it had to compensate users for those problems, according to a BBC News report. ...

Web radio stations that said they were facing certain death if new royalty rates kicked in as scheduled on July 15 got a stay of execution last week: Royalty collector SoundExchange agreed to hold off on implementing the new rates while negotiations continue, BusinessWeek.com reported. The stations, which say the much higher rates will force them out of business, have already gotten at least one major concession, with SoundExchange agreeing to cap a new minimum royalty rate at $50,000 per station per year. This is instead of the $500 per music stream that was originally proposed, which would have charged them that amount for each stream created by each user.
