MADDEN NFL WEEK 1 2008

      Las Vegas, NV - The Dome was sold out, the new coach was on the sidelines and hardly one LV Dragon fan could be found.  With tourism at a fever pitch, most attendants were tourists, gamblers and Seattle fans. Never the less the game went on.

Things did not start out very strong as Dunn was sacked twice and he almost threw an interception on 3rd and 24.  Martz held his composure, punted the ball and then had a quick talk with his starter Dunn. That was the last of the poor play by Dunn and the offensive line for the remainder of the game.

The Seahawks had little to no trouble moving the ball inbetween the 20's racking up 350 yards of offense, but could not seal the deal all day. Hasselback was on target all day except in the redzone where he completed 2 passes on 7 attempts and threw 2 interceptions.  Super star alexander had a hard time running the ball as he only had 22 yards by halftime and ended with 47.  The dink and dunk philosphy of the Seahawks led to alot of recpetions but little to no YAC. This resulted in long sustained drives but failure to get in teh endzone.

Ronnie Brown had a good day running the ball. Martz promised a balanced attack on offense and that is what we got, 26 rushes and 23 passes. Utecht was involved early, most likely to calm the young QB down. The first TD pass of the Dragons franchise was caught by Utecht as well.  Holt had a terrible first half, getting no receptions with 5 targets and had 2 drops.  Martz went right to him in the second half as Chambers was doubled, and Holt responded with a very good second half including a spectacular TD grab in the endzone.

STARS OF THE GAME: Dunn was outstanding almost all game, moving the chains, throwing a pretty deep ball and managing the game at the end.  Holt rebounded nicely, after a poor first half... that shows maturity. Sexton had 10 tackles, the Seahawks dink and dunk approach didn't work because of Sextons great tackling skills.  Daniels and Taylors endzone interceptiosn really sealed the game up for the Dragons.

NOTES: Randy McMichael tore up his shoulder in the 3rd quarter. Doctors say 6 weeks or more before he can play again. Rookie Harris will take over. No plans on bringing in another TE with Utecht on board to fill in on 3 TE sets.

LAS VEGAS DRAGONS DRAFT

The Second Draft for Jay Zippo. He netted 4 starters last year in Sexton, Dunn, Wooden and Taylor. No trades were made. Mike MArtz was very active in the draft as well.

1.13  WR  A. Holt - 6'0 192 North Carolina  OVR: 81
    2nd Cousin to Torry Holt, Anthony Holt is one of the best all around WR's to come out of the draft in years. In the Mold of Marvin Harrison he runs great routes, has good hands and is not afraid to go over the middle. At North Carolina he was an all-american, and had multiple awards through out his career.

2.13 OLB J.Garrett  - 6'4 264 Tennessee  OVR: 80
    Garrett dropped in the draft due to his combine. His less then impressive tackling and agility test made him go from a top 15 to a middle 2nd round. Garrett will have an opportunity to start immediately. Garrett lead his team in tackles at Tennessee and was MVP of the Tampax Manhole Bowl.

3.13 OG D.Black - 6'3 311  Washington  OVR: 78
    The offensive line overhaul continues as Martz's influence begins to take shape. With the 5 out of 6 wins to end last season, the main ingrediant was the improved play of the offensive line. Black will most likely be a day one starter, and will improve the line dramatically as he gains experience.

4.13  WR D.Potts - 6'1 204  Texas A&M  OVR: 72
    WR Potts is an all american sprinter. Tried out for the olympics and missed it by a fraction. Hands and route capabilities are in question but his acceleration and speed put him in the D.Hall / Stallworth catagory.

5.13  FS  D.Neal - 5'11 204  McNeese St.  OVR: 75
    Neal has very good athleticism, but lacks experience and is raw. Will be a great special teamer and possibly get a chance to via a starting job if he improves in the nest 2 years. 

6.13  OT  J.Carter - 6'7 308 Arizona  OVR: 70
    J.Carter was drafted because of his stregnth and Run Blocking skills. Most short yardage, goalline situations will have Carter in. He has a long way to go to start with his poor pass blocking skills and non experience.

7.13  FB  B.Kindle - 6'2 262  Arizona St. OVR: 75
    Kindle will be a special teamer with little to no chance of starting, Utecht has the starting position at FB and most likely will not relinquish it with his talent.

MIKE MARTZ TO COACH DRAGONS

With a new arena, a new franchise, new fans, why not have a new coach. That is the philosphy of GM and President of player personel Jay Zippo.

"Las Vegas is an exciting city, filled with lights, fun and action.  Mike Martz is the definition of Vegas for the NFL, fast, furious, lively, colorful and one of the masterminds of offense" Zippo said touting his newly hired coach.

Mike martz was the offensive coordinator for the Lions for 2 years before coming to the Dragons. Martz was let go by the Rams after being with them for 8 years. He led them to the playoffs multiple times and to the Superbowl as well. Zippo is hoping Martz can find that magic again.

"I am very excited to get rolling here in Vegas. We have a boatload of talent on this team and I think we can do some real damage this year" Martz said, "Zippo brought me in to right the ship and right the ship I will!"

When asked about some players on the Dragons, Martz replied "Dunn is an interesting prospect. (The Dragons QB) He has a great arm, good accuracey, but has alot to learn. Ronnie Brown is amazing, so is Chambers, but if I am concerned with one thing, it would be the Offensive line. They turned it around in the latter part of 2007, helping the team win 5 of its last 7 games but we need consistancy."

Martz will have an even say in the personel. Between the scouting staff, Zippo and Martz they will do all of the personel work together.

C.Foerster comes on board with Martz as the Offensive Coordinator. They worked together in St.Louis back in the day. J.Barry was released by the Falcons and the Dragons snatched him up with his solid 4-3 style of defense. and the Special teams will be headed up by Sweatman.

MIAMI DOLPHINS DRAFT

The Dolphins traded the 1.3 and the 6.25 pick to the Atlanta Falcons for the 1.15, 3.15 and 5.15 pick. (atlanta Drafted Keenan Little)

1.15  CB  T.Sexton - 5'8 175 23  N.Carolina  OVR: 84
    Sexton was the Second CB taken in the draft. He was an all-
    american with 22 INT in his collegate career. His only downfall is
    his overall speed. He has the burst and acceleration but struggles
    with very fast WR's.

2.1  OT  T.Wooden - 6'7 331 21  California  OVR: 79
    A position of need for the Dolphins. This years draft was void of
    any 5 star tackles, but Wooden is as close as it gets. Started for
    all 3 years, and was expected to go first round, but slipped to
    Miami.

2.3  QB  T.Dunn - 6'4 215 22  Virginia  OVR: 80
    A consistant player at Virginia, he was never touted as a
    superstar. He had a good TD to INT ratio but never won any big game
    or made the big play. Was slated to go early 3rd, but the Dolphins
    scouting staff thought he could really be something special.

3.3  DT  J.Woods - 6'2 305 23  Indiana  OVR: 78
    Woods was an excellent player for the Hoosiers, was slated to go
    late 1st early second but had a terrible combine performance and a
    mediocre pro day. His tangibles are great but was lacking stregnth
    and stamina in the Combine.

3.15  OG  O.Peterson - 6'3 301 22  Penn State  OVR: 77
    Peterson is a still a raw talent, He had a good stay at Penn State
    playing 3 years and in his sophmore campaign was all-american. His
    play fell off a bit his Junior year. Safe pick late in the first
    day.

4.1  RB  S.Fuller - 6'0 223 22  Florida  OVR: 76
    Fuller is a hometown favorite, and was supposed to go in the first
    day but fell due to character issues and some of the stats he had
    in the Combine and his Pro Day.  Had a productive career at
    Florida, got into some trouble. Somewhat of a risky pick.

4.15  SS  J.Taylor - 5'11 213 22  Virginia Tech OVR: 77
    Taylor is no relation to the Talyor on the Dolphins now. He has
    wicked speed and good size, can covert to Free saftey, or
    Linebacker in future years as he played many positions at VT.

5.3  TE  S.Harris - 6'2 259 23  USC  OVR: 76
    Value pick here, Harris will fight with Peele for the backup role
    behind McMichael. Played very well and had good fan fare but
    slipped on many peoples draft board due to lack of Pass or
    Runblocking. A pure receiving TE he might struggle finding playing
    time.

5.15  FB  W.Dunn - 6'0 253 21  Louisville  OVR: 75
    A raw talent, Dunn has the ability to become a productive FB.
    Louisville was not the best place for a FB, but he got his playing
    time in.  A special teamer for the Dolphins and may get a chance
    to shine in years to come.

6.3  LB  B.Allen - 6'4 249 23  Tenn State  OVR: 73
    Taken for his speed, acceleration and stregnth, Allen will be a
    special teams maniac for the Dolphins.  He will back up McCune,
    but has a long way to go before cracking the starting lineup.
