Home Repairs and Renovations
This month Little Stars has started a programme of home repairs and renovations for its sponsored families. The aim is to try and provide a basic level of living which although very primitive by European standards would offer more dignity to the families that we support.
The renovations primarily consist of making toilet facilities more private by adding walls and doors to toilet areas and improving hygiene where possible. The next priority is to provide beds and simple cotton mattresses to lower the number of children that are sleeping on mud floors. The need for roof repairs is not so high on the agenda now that summer is on its way. This has also lowered the need for warm clothing but we are now in a position of needing at least 200 pairs of basic flip-flop type sandals as nearly all the children in our families are barefoot.
All our sponsored families received meat with their food parcels this month. The amount of meat distributed was dependent on the size of the family with each person receiving at last half a kilo of meat. Ten new families were visited and added to our list awaiting sponsorship.
