Donations reach nearly 1,000,000 Egyptian pounds

 End of year Accounts

The accounts for the financial year to the 29th May 2009 have been completed and sent for approval. Donations totalled £60,744. That is fantastic. It has been an exciting year. With the grace of all that is, next year will be even better.

Little Stars has now been operating for two years and the combined total of donations is over £95,000. Had it not been for the drastic fall in the value of sterling we would now have collected around 1,000,000 le. Two years ago we would never have thought this possible.

Everyone who loves Luxor and Egypt has seen or knows of the desperate need of most of the children there and has responded - thanks to everyone.

We have now been given a Charity Commission opinion on our website and have been told that it is "excellent" as it is kept up-to-date and gives complete transparency of Little Stars activites. 

We have now started a Facebook Group for Little Stars and invite you as a supporter to join in discussions there and give your advice and opinions on the best way to tackle child poverty and health problems in Luxor, Egypt. All discussions will be kept positive as the children need your help and have enough negativity in their lives already.

Unwanted Egyptian Currency

 Unwanted Egyptian Currency

Do you have any unwanted Egyptian currency notes lying around in a drawer in your home?  You may have some notes that you did not spend at the airport when you left Egypt.  We can put them to good use on your behalf.  No matter how small the notes just pop them in an envelope and send them to us.  We will send you a receipt if you require one.

The money will be used to help Luxor's disadvantaged and disabled children.  We are not a huge organisation with hundreds of sponsors and access to large grants, we are a simple organisation that already has more than 140 children in its care.  The children are still with their mothers but it is Little Stars that is keeping them from destitution.

Those old notes add up and really will make a difference.

Thank You Hod Hod Balloons

You may wonder what happens to those odd coins that you hand over when you are in Luxor.  Well I can tell you what has happened to a whole bag of pound coins that were given to Hod Hod balloons over a period of time; they have been donated to Little Stars for use in their projects.

These particular coins are going to be used to help a little girl who has a terrible skin infection that has eaten away a lot of the flesh on her feet, badly scarred her back and has spread to her face.  She is now receiving proper care through Little Stars and is being collected and taken regularly to the hospital to see a specialist.  She is also being provided with medicines.  So that her recovery is not hindered, she is being monitored to ensure that she receives the regular bathing that is vital for her recovery.  As there is no water in her home she will use the bathroom facilities at the clinic. A simple bag of coins means that there will be no disruption in her treatment due to lack of funds.

Thank you Hod Hod.  Without help like this we can do little but with your help and that of all our other supporters we can do a great deal.

End of Second Year

Little Stars has now come to the end of a very successful second year in Luxor and wishes to thank everyone who supported us throughout 2008 - 2009 and who sent their best wishes on our second birthday last week. 

The latest newsletter showing what has been happening with Little Stars' projects in the clinic, the new school and in the villages has now been uploaded to the main site.
