Another Red Letter Day for Little Stars

Another Red Letter Day for Little Stars

Today has been another Red Letter Day for Little Stars.  Because of your extreme generosity this month a contract has been signed and the rent paid, on a property that will become the new Little Stars Hadana.

This Hadana (Nursery School) will provide a basic education in the early years for children from very poor families and for those who because of disabilities are outside the school system.

We should have vacant possession of the property on the 1st June and work will start then on converting the property for educational use.  Hopefully the school will be ready in September for the start of the new school year.

All children will be provided with everything they need for school, including full uniform, shoes, school bag and stationery.  You have already donated a large stock of pens and pencils ready for the children to use.

The property has a large working space, a small office/store room, a toilet and basin and some shelving.  It also has the use of three other toilets.  It is well decorated but may need the addition of extra power points and will need protective railings to be added outside to ensure that children are safe.  As you can see the work required in minimal and we consider ourselves fortunate to have the opportunity to use the premises.

As this property is rented, just as the clinic is rented, planning will still go ahead for a multi-use children's centre to be built, funds permitting, in two years time.  The new centre would hold a clinic for disabled children and a general health centre for children from poor families.  In addition there would be an educational facility and possible workshops where people could learn a skill to make them more self-sufficient so that they do not have to rely on 'hand-outs' from Little Stars or anyone else.

If the workshops proved successful work could be provided for widowed mothers to make items for the Fair Trade Centres,  the possibilities are endless.

Thank you again.
We could not have done this without you.

Magnificent Support

Magnificent Support

We would like to thank all our donors and sponsors for their magnificent support.  During March donations have exceeded £7,000 sterling and this is a fantastic amount for a small charity to raise in such a short period of time.

With the immense success of the west bank clinic, and with your continued support, the aim of having a purpose built Little Stars Centre becomes more and more a reality.  Plans will be put on hold until the value of the pound increases against foreign currencies but having a centre with a clinic, a school for disabled children, a hadana, workshops and a food distribution point all under one roof has become a possibility rather than a distant dream.

With you we can do so much.
Without you we can do nothing.

Community Help

Community Help

We are delighted to tell you that Little Stars is becoming increasingly involved in community programmes in the United Kingdom as well as in Egypt.  We have now stablished connections with a University whose students will be coming to Luxor to further their education in children's healthcare and we are also establishing links with schools whose pupils wish to sponsor education in developing countries and want to know more about how children in other countries live.

These are very worthwhile innovations and help to develop a community spirit in children by learning of others who are not so fortunate as themselves.

Red Nose Day - Donations

www.LittleStars-Luxor.org

Donations

We cannot thank our supporters enough for their generosity this week as more than £3,000 has been donated to Little Stars in the last seven days.

This is magnificent support for a small charity and we wish to thank the publicity that the Red Nose appeal brought to the plight of Africa's children.   The children of North Africa tend to be forgotten in programmes about Africa's problems, but our supporters remembered. Thank You.

(Edited to account for donations of £1,250 which were received on Sunday 15th March 2009).

Charles Woods

Charles Woods.

Little Stars is very sad to report the death of Mr. Charles Woods of Luxor.  Charles was a great supporter of Little Stars both in giving donations and time, even though he knew that because of ill-health his time was very limited and therefore very precious.

He will be greatly missed and we send condolences to his family.

Sandals

Sandal Donation

We are delighted to report that following the publication of our last newsletter we were contacted by Mrs. Glynys Hobley of Hull who made a donation to cover the cost of sandals for our children in Luxor.  Thank you we are very grateful and shall order the sandals from Cairo.

We are beginning to collect warm clothing for next winter as the demand is great and it takes all summer to gather stocks as people can only bring a small amount with them to Luxor on each trip.

Bercause of your support Little Stars is now one of the biggest overseas charities operating in Luxor and we would like to thank all our supporters and sponsors for their help.  The children in the villages have very little and without your help they would have even less.

Statement from the Trustees

Statement from the Trustees of Little Stars.

We are aware that there are now several malicious clone sites of Little Stars on the Internet.  None of the sites stem from the Egyptian people and, having idenitifed their source, all have been reported to the relevant UK and Egyptian authorities.

We have learned to live with destructive attacks and ask our supporters to do the same.  Little Stars is a successful and respected charity and will ignore negativity and preserve its positive attitude as it has always done.
