Ambassador's Visit

-
Ambassador's Visit
-
Little Stars is delighted to announce that our new West Bank Clinic (which offers free physiotherapy treatment to disabled children), had a surprise official visit this week from the British Ambassador to Egypt Sir. Dominic Asquith.  The Ambassador was accompanied by the British Consul Mr. Richard Fielder and Luxor's Honorary Consul Mr. Ehab Gaddis.  The clinic is very close to Qurna Hospital and will officially open next week when children will resume their treatment.

Although the Ambassador and the British Consul were on a flying visit and therefore on a very tight schedule, they stayed at the clinic for a long time and inspected every part of it.  Particular interest was shown not only in the medical side of the clinic but also in its food distribution programme which is already fully operational.

They were introduced to our Chairman Connie Tindale, the clinic's manager, all the staff, Mr. Charles Woods who is one of our main supporters in Luxor and the local volunteers who are essential to the food distribution programme.  All were praised for the work they were doing and told that they could be very proud of what they had achieved in the short time since Little Stars began.

It was a very auspicious start for the clinic and we are grateful to have received the Ambassador's attention.  We are all sure that the clinic has a bright future and will give desperately needed help to Luxor's poorest children.

Photos of the new clinic will be shown in the October Newsletter.

With you we can do so much
Without you the clinic would not exist.

Distribution of Clothes

Distribution of Clothing

Winter has arrived early in the United Kingdom and in Europe but in Egypt it is still hot during the day: that will not last much longer.  Soon the days will become cold and the nights will become bitter as they are in all desert areas.  People have enough problem finding enough food to eat and cannot afford to spend their very limited income on heating which makes the problem for young children worse.

To combat the winter cold, Little Stars has already started distributing the clothes that you have so kindly donated for the children.   Last week our supporters (Mr and Mrs Graham) took bags of clothes and stationery to the Good Samaritan Home and further clothing was taken there again this week.  In addition we have started to distribute the coats which were stored in our Distribution Centre.  In the coming weeks we will make up parcels of gender and age related mixed clothing to distribute in the villages along with the food parcels that we buy from the Egyptian Food Bank.

Please continue to bring clothes and items with you when you come to Luxor on holiday.  The children need them and they need your help more than you can imagine.

With you we can do so much.

Without you we can do nothing.

Baggage Allowances

Baggage Allowances

Little Stars would like to thank First Choice Airline and Thomson Airline for their extreme generosity in allowing three of our supporters to have an extra luggage allowance this month.   Not all airlines are as supportive so this makes their help doubly appreciated.

Their allowance means that an extra 40 kgs of items such as clothes and school stationery can be brought to Luxor for the children. Together with items taken to Luxor last week our supporters have brough 60 kgs of baggage for the children in October alone.

If you have clothes and items for the children and our clinics that you want to bring to Luxor please let us know and we will try and get an extra baggage allowance for you and will collect the items from your hotel.

Thank you

Kit Claxton's Half-Marathon Run

We are delighted to tell you that Kit finished his half marathon and was sponsored by more than 200 people who were willing to donate to Little Stars.  Kit can now have a well deserved rest and we cannot thank him enough for all his efforts especially as it was raining the whole way.  We are hoping that Kit has a photograph that we can put in our newsletter.

Thanks Kit
