Cheap Apple Mac Mini MC239LL/A Desktop

Great for basic computing

The Mac Mini is a great computer for basic home computing. Processing is a little slow at times when using Photoshop, but runs standard applications very well. Set up was very fast and easy. Supports dual monitors with no need for external video card as I believe previous versions did (though mini-display adapter must be purchased). Wish I could find shorter Ethernet and monitor cables now that I finally have a desktop computer that actually fits on my desktop. Internal memory card reader would have been nice, but external ones are cheap. Overall, very happy with my purchase.

Wonderful little machine

I'm not a fanboi, but I do like the current Mac OS being unix based. I would like the OS better if Apple had not replaced standard unix daemons like crond(8) with launchd(8), but otherwise Mac OS X is great. It is nice to have a unix-based OS with mainstream graphics. I like X Windows, but have become tired over the decades with futzing with X Windows to play movies. I really like X Windows, it does things that other graphic user interfaces only dream of, but the Mac OS X interface is nice.

I admit I'm biased against Microsoft and Microsoft Windows. That bias is an added bonus for anything that's not Windows.

The Mac Mini came with Mac OS X 10.6.2, Snow Leopard, and I patched it to 10.6.3. The only issue I had with this box was really an issue with an older NFS server. I needed to upgrade the NFS portion of the server to work with the newer NFS code in this box.
