HERBAL REMEDIES FOR TONSILLITIS
TONSILLITIS
INTRODUCTION:
The tonsils are lumps of tissue located on either side of the back of the throat. They are part of the body's immune system, designed to protect us by trapping bacteria and viruses that try to enter the body through the mouth.
DEFINITION:
Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils in the mouth and will often, but not necessarily, causes a sore throat and fever. Symptoms may also include pain in the tonsil area and inability to swallow and/or painful swallowing. White spots may also appear on the tonsils.
TREATMENT FOR TONSILLITIS:
The following are some important remedies for Tonsillitis.
* Antibiotic:
An antibiotic, usually penicillin, is used to treat tonsillitis caused by strep bacteria.
* Paracetamol or ibuprofen:
Paracetamol or ibuprofens ease pain, headache, tonsillitis and fever.
* Aspirin gargles:
Aspirin gargles may ease the soreness. Dissolve some soluble aspirin in water and gargle for 3-4 minutes. Spit out the aspirin after gargling.
* Other gargles, lozenges, and sprays:
Other gargles, lozenges, and sprays that can buy at pharmacies may help to soothe a sore throat. However, they do not shorten the illness.
HERBS FOR TONSILLITIS:
The following are the some important herbs for Tonsillitis.
* Thuja:
Thuja (Thuja occidentalis) is anti-bacterial and anti-viral and has been found to be very effective in chronic tonsillitis. It can be taken internally and painted over the affected area.
* Sage:
Sage tea is soothing, astringent and anti-bacterial, and works effectively as a gargle. It helps to clean our throat.
* Clivers:
Clivers (Galium aparine) is very effective in supporting the activity of the lymphatic system, astringes and reduces inflammation.
* Dandelion and Chamomile:
A tea or tinctures of Dandelion root and Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) are good cleansers that will improve digestion and rectify tonsillitis problem.
* Elder:

* Elecampane:
Elecampane combines well with other antiseptic herbs and is used for infections such as flu and tonsillitis. Its restorative, tonic action complements its ability to counter infection.
* Oregano:
