A Breakthrough in the Golf Swing

A Breakthrough in the Golf Swing!!!
by Alan Hipps

This is a personal story about a breakthrough I had at the driving range one day earlier this year. I was wrapping up practicing a move I've been working on that would really simplify my golf swing when a gentleman, a couple, and two more gentlemen walked out to hit balls on the range. As I was walking off the range and up to the clubhouse one of the gentleman asked if I was the pro there. I told him that I wasn't but I did teach. He told me I had a nice and simple looking swing, and that he wishes his was as simple as mine looked. I told him I'd watch him hit a couple of balls and see if I could suggest something. Those were the best and most productive words I uttered this year.

He hit a couple of balls with his 8 iron that were solid and pushed to the right, he then hit a couple more that did the same thing. I hesitated, and thought a minute about a process of learning the golf swing that I was working on, Bingo... I told him to try a move that I'd been working on earlier, and I demonstrated it for him. He said he'd try it and after a couple of practice swings beside the ball, he stepped in, did exactly what I demonstrated and hit a big draw. I noticed he had the clubface slightly closed at address which I told him to square up and try it again. Crack... three in a row with a little draw. Hearing the excitement in his voice after each ball his friend, the couple, and the other gentleman stopped hitting and watched. Four more, the last one was dead straight and almost hit the flag he was aiming at.

He then turned to me, and about this time I had everyone's attention that was on the range, and asked me "What did I do?" I told him that I simplified his backswing and his move through the ball with a feeling I had him feel throughout his swing. He then took his 5 iron out and hit three balls solid and straight and he hit one thin. He then took a couple of smooth practice swings and hit three more solid with a little draw. To make a long breakthrough short, I had the remaining people on the range hitting it straighter with the same simple move. What was this simple move? Find out what this amazing breakthrough is at http://golfswingconnection.com

GOLF - About the Rules

GOLF - About the Rules
by Kevin Keene

If you know that you don't know everything about the rules of the golf, the most obvious solution is to get a rule book and read it. Or, first, read this article below.

It's quite interesting and knowing the rules well can save you strokes at times. The rules also state, right up in the front of the rule book "Play the course as you find it." In other words play the ball down and the course conditions are the same for everyone.

I hate tournaments that play "winter rules" except for scrambles. Playing winter rules or preferred lies is not playing golf. Than again scrambles aren't really golf either, but are a lot of fun. Trust me on this, if you're not playing the ball as it lies you will hinder the progress of your improvement.

The other thing which will most slow your improvement down is "creative scoring." Someone has a great saying he uses in regard to this matter. "I make my triple bogies the old fashion way; I earn them!" Cute, but none the less very ethical. Being out-ethics is the surest way I know of putting stops on any progress. So if you miss a two footer, count it. No matter what score you come in with you'll have a better day. Stay still and keep quiet when another is going through his routine and playing a stroke.

I have good peripheral vision, and the thing that can throw me the most is the early walk or lean that comes into view. Just stay still until the ball is in the air. Talking is rude, but whispering is worse. At times if you've been annoyed by someone whispering while you are shooting, go over and nicely say "You know I could hear you whispering over there and it sort of bothered me." I'm amazed at the times I've heard back "you couldn't have heard us whispering" to which I reply "Well, how did I know you were whispering then." Of course, there is no good answer to that and you get your point across...

On the other side of that coin, is however, that there are just going to be times when someone talks or makes noise somewhere on the course, and the better you get at blocking out annoyances the better off you'll be. The only way you can try to "psych' another player out is with your game.

It is a much stronger psych-out than any words could ever be, especially when it comes to putting, and making par when it looked like a sure bogey. And never give up on any shot or hole unless it is mathematically impossible to halve the hole and even then you'll only pick up so as to move along to the next hole. Giving up constitutes a psych-out on yourself. You may not want to throw another player off of his game. You want your game to be what wins, not the downfall of another. It's more "sporting" that way!

We hope this article has helped you to understand better the game of golf.

The History of Golf

History of Golf
by RecruitCity

The history of golf has roots deep in the history of man since for the past five hundred years they have at some point or another taken a stick to a ball or rock. Thus making it difficult to determine just when the sport was created and put a timeline to golf history. So exactly who is credited with inventing golf and developing golf history? Well, it was really a collaboration of a number of countries and the efforts of many men hitting objects with a stick. Understandingly, with such a wide description of how the game was developed it left it wide open for everyone to claim ownership. So basically everyone has laid claim to originating the game and contributing to the history of golf. Scotland may be the most prominent along with China, Italy, England, Belgium, Holland and France. So while the Scots may be most regarded as developing the game there is no clear title holder. Some theories claim that shepherds first started the game by hitting rocks across fields as the tendered their flocks while others believe that fishermen created the game as a means to pass time during dry spells. Of course there are many other forms of the game that have taken place in and throughout the world and they each included a ball and stick. The Chinese used to play a game as far back as 300 BC that involved beating a ball while the ancient Romans and Celts also had similar games that contributed to golf history. The very first round of golf was said to be played at Bruntsfield Links in Edinburgh, Scotland around 1456. Seeing that the sport was supposedly developed around the 1100's you can see how much it may have progressed in the 300 years until the first recognized round. Regardless of the original inventors it is clear that Scotland was definitely the leader in modernizing the sport. They are also credited with the creation of the first golf course in the world. The Old Links located at Musselburgh Links in Scotland in 1672.

Obviously the game has evolved a lot since then. The first golf courses didn't have eighteen holes. The famous St. Andrews golf course that sits along the sea in Scotland was initially created with just eleven holes. This was back in the fifteenth century when they would basically just walk out and play the terrain as it showed fit.

They used to play all eleven holes out and turn around then play them back in. Golf history shows they then cut the number to nine holes total and would still play them out and back so that they played a total of 18 holes as we all know it today.

Major alterations to the game and the equipment have helped shape golf throughout the late 1800's and early 20th century. The courses all changed as new grass and better lawnmowers were created. The vast improvement was seen mostly on the greens which drastically changed the form of putting. Corporations have designed better golf balls using newly discovered materials and clubs changed dramatically with the implementation of the metal shaft. The nineteen hundreds also produced the golf tee and metal and graphite composite club heads.

Now golf is a major international sport played by millions that grosses billions of dollars a year in revenue. The game has definitely come a long way from sticks and rocks. So goes the history of golf...
