History of Audio Books.

This new idea of recording information as audio format is initially began for the welfare of the blind people. As they are unable to read books, all the contents were recorded by the Royal National Institute, England . They created a small research for creating new audio books. There was a great demand for audio books for First World War soldiers, who became blind at the time of war.
Record players were used for playing audio books during 1926. The name of the very first audio book is 'The Murder of Roger Ackroyd' by Agatha Christie and the other is 'Typhoon' by Joseph Conrad. Believe it or not, the old audio books came with the packages of 10 records. The reason behind this is that those records did not have adequate space to store more information. At that time it was possible to record only 25 minutes of audio in one record.
A big misfortune happened in 1940 for Royal National Institute especially for blind. The prestigious institute was destroyed badly by a bomb blast. Unfortunately lots of important things which were kept for creating new audio books were lost. 'American Foundation of the Blind' gave its hand to Royal National Institute at the needy time to create audio books. Later on during 1960s, cassette audio books were introduced but they did not success in the market.
Cassette audio books were marketed in another name as '4 tracks'. As they were large in size, it needed a unique delivery system. Gradually cassettes were replaced by Compact Discs (CDs). Nowadays, mostly all the audio books are recorded in ordinary CDs or in DVDs. These advanced audio books can be listened by using a CD player or MP3 player. This is the brief history of audio books.
