Boring and anticlamactic
I was really excited to read this book, but was pretty disappointed by the end. The author is so random in her writing, and introduces many stories and concepts and never develops them enough for you to understand why she brought them up in the first place. It got a little ridiculous when Suzie came back to Earth and chose to have sex with a guy who hasn't heard from her in 8 years. Like some 13 yr old would even remember you after 8 years! The mini-stories and flashbacks were so random and underdeveloped that I never got attached to any of the characters. And it was so random that the mom suddenly didn't want to be a mom and abandoned her whole family on a whim. No one made her get married and have three kids! Then her pansy dad just accepts her back into their life? That's not love! That's deseperation. I love that Buck cussed her out! Finally!
The whole book was just mini story after mini story and then the pages just stopped. There was no real ending, except of course, her sister naming her baby after her. Predictable. It left me extrememly unsatisfied.

Interesting Approach
Alice Sebold takes us on a unique journey to what she feels is everyone's unique heaven, told through the thoughts of a murdered 14 year old girl. From her treacherous rape and murder to her resolve of the fact that life must go on without her, a quite different approach in a life-after-death storyline takes place. As other reviewers before me have summarized the storyline, I will suffice it to say that The Lovely Bones turns out to be a good read although at times it can become very lengthy and somehow cause the reader to stray. I would definitely recommend sticking to it and finishing the book as there is no comparison to the movie. Hands down, don't see the movie until you have read the book. The book does not disappoint!
