 Preamble to South Asia on Channel i

 
Southasian is an organisation constituted of cultural activists, media personalities and filmmakers from all over South Asia. Channel i is coming up with a one-hour weekly programme on South Asian issues from April onwards. As a preamble to this programme, Channel i will air a number of discussions on South Asia in the coming months.

The first
preamble will be aired on January 13 at 3:30pm. The discussants of the programme are Professor Rehman Sobhan, Syed Manzoorul Islam, Sara Zaker and Zafar Sobhan. The moderator of the programme is Rubana Huq. The lively discussion revolves around the pros and cons of South Asian identity and solidarity. The programme will be aired again on January 14, at 2am. Since 1999 Channel i has grown in popularity as one of the best educational and entertainment TV channels in Bangladesh. This live Bangladeshi TV channel is mainly aimed at Bangla speaking individuals and provides programming that the entire family can enjoy.

Citycell Let's Move, a monthly popular entertainment game show, is currently running on Channel i on the last day of every month at 7:50pm. The programme includes lively, fun-filled games in locations throughout Bangladesh.

Spring is in the air. Once more Basanta Utsab (Spring Festival) will be celebrated with great enthusiasm and fanfare. Women will don bashanti (a shade of mustard) attire and flowers in their hair; flowers such as marigolds, dahlias, polash and shimul will be ubiquitous while the city will be dotted with fairs. Likewise cultural functions will be the order of the day and the ecstasy of spring will be celebrated through music, dance and recitation.

To welcome Basanta, National Basanta Utsab Udjapon Committee have chalked out elaborate programmes to be held on February 13th at the Bokultola premises of the Institute of Fine Arts, Dhaka University. Channel i will air the programme live from 7:20am.

BBC Sanglap is one of the popular programmes on  Channel i. It is a talk show with a four member panel discussing major current issues with an invited audience of around 150 members of the public. The selection of the audience is done by inviting the listeners to register their interest in attending the Sanglaps through announcements in all BBC Bengali programmes. In addition invitations are sent to various Radio Listener's Clubs whose members are generally young, with diverse political views and affiliations. BBC Bangladesh Sanglap is presented in the form of open discussion and debate to futher strengthen the demacratic practice and culture in Bangladesh.

The programme provides a good platform, where members of the public can discuss major socio-political issues with leaders of various political parties and members of the civil society.  The new series of Sanglaps are divided into two parts - the first running from September to mid October, and the second running from November to the end of December. The programme provides the viewers a deep insight into major social and political issues prevailing in the society. The programme is being telecasted on Mondays and repeat telecast on following Sundays.


The panel consists of Bangladesh political leaders, ministers, their oppositon counterparts, social activists, editors of national newpapers and business leaders, who are engaged in debates covering justice, corruption, education, health, local government, trade and security. Sanglap program is presented and moderated by Shakeel Anshaw.
