'Grameenphone Nayone Bangladesh 2021'

Cellphone operator Grameenphone and Channel-i are jointly producing and airing a fortnightly talk-show programme on development issues of Bangladesh. The purpose of airing the talk-show titled 'Grameenphone Nayone Bangladesh 2021', is to provide a platform for development actors to agree on common development targets and relate that to public aspirations regarding how they envisage Bangladesh in 2021 when it will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

In each episode of the programme, audiences are also being invited to participate in question and answer session, along with selected panelists. Aired on every alternate Friday, three episodes of a total six shows have already been aired, starting the premier show at 8pm on December 8. Based on the discussion in the first episode, agriculture and rural economy, health, environment, private and public partnership, and education were identified as issues for discussion in further episodes. The second episode on Agriculture and Rural Economy and the third one on Health were aired recently.

Through this programme, GP wants to demonstrate its commitment towards development of the nation by creating a platform for development actors to agree on common development targets. After airing all the episodes, the GP will prepare a set of recommendations on different development issues and submit them to the government, development workers and policy makers to help them conduct the development activities accurately.

Popular mega-serial Bhober Haat  reaches  60th episode tonight. The 104-episode TV serial has a rural setting, depicting colourful lifestyles of the rural denizens. The play follows the story of two brothers who have cut off all ties for 25 years over some trivial incident. However, the brothers' offspring seek a family reunion, giving rise to hilarious moments. Bhober Haat is written by Masum Reza and directed by Salauddin Lavlu.

Cast of the play includes Humayun Faridee, A T M Shamsuzzaman, Wahida Mollick Jolly, Salauddin Lavlu, Fazlur Rahman Babu, Tania, Diti and Bonna Mirza.

The serial is aired every Saturday and Sunday at 7:50pm on Channel i.

Dil Bhranto Nabeek - Telefilm on Illegal Traffickers

Everyday millions around the world are falling prey to illegal traffickers. Out of desperation, seeking a better life, people often adopt irregular and unsafe routes of migration. Dik Bhranto Nabeek, a tele-film features the tragic end these people often meet when they put their lives through immense danger, according to a press release. Based on a true story the film tries to discourage human trafficking and encourage regular and safe migration.

The central character Salam is an easygoing youth who dreams big. He is educated but unemployed. He worries about his family. Salam considers going abroad. He thinks by doing that he can somehow make his dreams come true. Eventually he becomes desperate. An organised group of dishonest manpower agents take advantage of his desperation. He loses a great deal of money in the process and the family loses its assets and savings. During an attempt to migrate illegally, Salam loses his life. On the other hand, Salam's friend Sharif is more prudent and pragmatic. He takes courses on Hotel management at NHTTI (National Hotel and Tourism Training Institute) and gets himself a legal job and visa to UK.

Dik Bhranto Nabeek narrates the unfortunate end of a youth full of potentials. It also provides a glimpse at the benefits of adopting legal means of migration to the audience. Written and directed by Al Mansur, the film was produced by Refugee & Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) with technical assistance from Media-mix Enterprise Ltd. and supported by The British High Commission, Dhaka. The film will be aired tonight at 9:35pm on Channel i.

Channel i to premier 'Shajghar' on Pahela Baishakh

As part of the Pahela Baishakh celebration Channel i will premier the movie Shajghar. The movie will be aired at 2:30pm on April 14 and will be released at Star Cineplex at Basundhara City on the same day.


Based on a story by popular author Humayun Ahmed, the movie revolves around Asif, a theatre buff who had to alienate himself from his passion in his school days. His ultra-conservative father's restrictions did not allow him to pursue theatre. However, years later Asif makes a return to the stage. He falls for Leena, daughter of a district judge and the young couple marry despite her father's disapproval.

Asif's undying love for theatre is somehow transmitted to Leena, who begins acting in stage plays. Eventually a new actress becomes the point of contention between Leena and Asif. Asif is again asked to quit theatre; this time his unborn child is the excuse. The film follows the couple and consequences of their decisions. Manna, Moushumi and Dighi play the lead roles of the movie. The movie is scripted and directed by Shah Alam Kiron.
