Shop For Panasonic DVD-LS86 8.5-Inch Portable DVD Player

I use one of these on an exercise machine to keep up with documentaries. For the past year I've been using a Sony DVP FX-820, but it would skip if A) I was playing content "late" in the disc (outer edge) or B) the exercise machine was vibrating more than usual. This really was a pain so I started looking for a player that had an anti-skip buffer like you find in most CD players. This was the only model that I could find that had it!

Further, this player offers lots of zoom options, including some that maintain the original aspect ratio (i.e. don't distort the image). Most players offer just one nearly useless stretch mode, if they offer any zoom at all!

This review applies to the LS-83 too -- the only difference between the 83 and 86 is the battery life, which I don't really care about.

#! Purchase Sony DVP-FX730

Purchase Sony DVP-FX730 7-Inch Portable DVD Player, Black

This is the best portable DVD player.
I tried the Panasonic first but the cover lid was defective.

This one I haven't had any issues with.
The sound can go very high so no need for a head set unless the son wants to listen to Kids Bop. LOL
The picture is great and when you stop and turn it off in the middle of a DVD it will start right off from where you left it.
It will even show full screen so no wasting of the screen.

This is going to be great on our first real vacation ever.

#! OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player

OPPO BDP-83 Blu-ray Disc Player With SACD & DVD-Audio

If the player's inability to do basic DVD playback functionality is not a deal breaker for you, then don't bother to read my review.

The player has five settings for fast-forward and reverse. For each DVD I tested, the fast-forward and reverse modes were so slow, they were useless!!!

According to Oppo, this is a limitation of the player; it's not just a defective unit. The decoder tries to decode the film in real time when fast forward or reverse is engaged, which causes a slow refresh of the video image. Their engineers are working to increase the frame buffer to allow for smoother, more detailed reverse and fast forward functionality.

Oppo doesn't know if this problem is caused by firmware or hardware. Oppo doesn't know when the problem will be fixed or even if it can be fixed.

Needless to say, I returned this player to Amazon for a full refund.

Interestingly enough, I have not seen any mention of this problem in any review for this machine.

If people had been forthcoming about this problem in their reviews, I would have never bothered to buy the player.

I can't imagine anyone releasing a video player with this limitation for any amount of money, let alone for $500. We're talking about basic DVD playback functionality on a machine whose main purpose in life is video playback.

Although I encountered two problems, the other being a malfunctioning scene select, Oppo admitted to me that there are more DVD playback problems than the ones I found. Oppo didn't say what they were, though.

Now, for my opinion of the Oppo's picture quality for Blu-Ray and DVD. I didn't bother to try out the audio playback, because I just bought the player for its video, not its audio, playback.

Please note, there are known limitations of the human eye when it comes to perceived sharpness at close viewing distances which should be taken into account when you compare my PQ observations to those of other reviewers.

The display I used with the Oppo is a 37-inch Sony HDTV, 1080p resolution, 60hz refresh rate. My viewing distance is three to six feet.

I had no issues with Blu-Ray playback and the picture quality was awesome. But, PQ was no better than BD that I have seen on other Blu-Ray players including the PS3.

DVD PQ was no better than I get with my standalone Sony upscaling DVD player.

# Samsung BD-P1600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player User Reviews

Samsung BD-P1600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

I purchased the P-1600, received it, read the owner documentation on wireless, then ordered a Linksys USB wireless adapter from Amazon. IT CAN'T WORK! No place, owner's documentation, Amazon's listing or Samsung's website is it stated there is only USB adapter that works with the player and it is Samsung's Part number WIS09-ABGN. The cost $79.95. If you want wireless buy the P-3600 which is $100 more and includes the wireless adapter.

Other than that one issue, it's a great player. However, I feel very frustrated since I would have purchased the P-3600 had I known.More Details : Samsung BD P1600 ! [Click Here!]

Samsung BD-P3600 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player This Instant

As snazzy as this item could be, it's not worth the money. Since day one I have had trouble playing most of the blu ray disks that I have tried. It just simply says "disk not readable" and spits it out. Today I called to check on firmware, and behold...they had a new update! Boy was I excited! I downloaded the new firmware and uploaded to my Samsung BD-P3600. Once uploaded I popped in two of my blu ray disks and guess what? THEY STILL DON'T PLAY. I've had it with this product and this company and the awful customer service and their refusal to acknowledge this problem.

Here is my advice....

if you want to watch blu ray movies DON'T BUY THIS PLAYER.More Details : Samsung BD P3600 ! [Click Here!]
