The First Days with Your Animal
This blog is really to take me down memory lane. But, at the same time, it will probably give you some good suggestions for the first days of owning a new animal. About ten years ago now, we became the proud owners of a little puppy. He was so cute! He was a black and white cocka-poo, or as my husband fondly called his breed, "a planned mutt." Nonetheless, as the first child we were having, of sorts, I was incredibly excited. I remember combing through a pet catalogue and marking all of the things I was going to get.
Tip #1 - Don't go crazy buying things for your dog before you even see the animal! Get a feel for the animal and see what you really need.
The night before he arrived, I ordered all of this stuff and couldn't wait for it to arrive. But, more importantly, I couldn't wait for Griffey to arrive. After he came to us, we were with him for a few hours when my dad said, "I bet he's thirsty." I felt like such an idiot. I was so excited to have him that I hadn't thought about any of his needs. I wasn't in the swing of things at all.
Tip #2 - Remember the basics. Your new puppy is scared when he arrives. He wants smells that he knows (bring him with a tshirt from his last place), water, food, and a place to snuggle. Make his first hours comfortable and sweet.
