A Penny For Thought

Inmate Love

Mood: Not Really In One
Listening to: Lyfe Jennings(The Pheonix)

Side Note:The title is a little off, this isn't exactly about love but it can be.

I've been watching a lot of TV lately and I ran accross this show about male inmates. After the show went off I started to do research and found out there are a lot of men and women out there looking for a pen pal.I knew that this was around but I didn't know how many sites offered this.I feel like although some of them did some unthinkable things to get themselves in this situation, there are some out there who are actually trying to get their lives together.I think it's sad that it took a situation like this to happen to get them to consider turning their lives around, but I am also glad that some of them are considering it and may even get it done.So many people look down on these people just because they are in a different situation. We've got to stop looking at people like we are more than the next person.

So here is the question, should people take the time out of their lives to get into contact with an inmate and maybe make their day, even if it's just to become the voice of reason for them?

There are a few who are making an honest effort, but inmates are often governed by an unspoken law of coersion which is handed down from the hardened criminals. When a lesser crime individual is let out, they are sometimes pressured by the associates of acquaintances they made in prison to help them get information for future crimes. My Dad hired a guy out of medium security prison and within 3 weeks his house of 50 years suffered its first break-in. I will never give sympathy to an ex-con and if I give them a job they will know nothing of my private life ever. Even if it is an old friend who screwed up - they are so often envious of your possessions or accomplishments that they fantasize that you don't really need what you have and take it without even asking. If a guy gets put in the pen, he's gotta really work at proving his worth. There are gov't programs to help them get back into the workforce, so if they really want to try, it can be done. Otherwise, I think they should only be allowed to talk to other prisoners, even over the internet, or study for education. Women who talk to prison guys usually just like outlaws anyway; just most of them who get robbed after they take the guy in don't realize that they enjoyed the game but not the consequences.

Well, this one really set me off!
